Frequently Asked Questions for Teachers.

1. I am going to miss one class, come late, leave early, etc. Can I still take the class?

The classes are sequential and each one is important to learn this approach. If you can not attend them all, please look into taking the class in the fall or next summer.

2. When will the classes next be offered?

We expect to offer levels 1 and 2 in the fall (starting in late Sept., early Oct.) and summer (generally the last two weeks in June). Levels 3 and 4 are generally offered in alternate summers.

3. I work with older students. Can I take level 2 first?

Everyone needs to start with level 1.

4. How many levels are there?

There are four levels. After successfully completing the first two levels, you are considered eligible to tutor.

5. I have taken Project Read or other MSL training. Do I have to take level 1?

The instructors deal with this question on an individual basis.

6. Will you hold a place for me over the phone?

Because of the high demand, we can not hold a place without a check.

7. What is the daily schedule?

  • Summer:
  • 9:00-9:30 lecture and discussion
  • 9:30-10:25 work with a student
  • 10:30-11:25 work with second student or observe
  • 11:30-2:00 lecture, lunch, demonstrations, videos, discussion
  • Fall:
  • 5:30-5:55 lecture and discussion
  • 6:00-6:55 work with a student
  • 7:00-7:55 work with a second student
  • 8:10-9:00 lecture and discussion

8. How much homework is there?

These classes are intensive and fast-paced. Nightly work is assigned in the summer, sometimes requiring more than an hour to complete.

9. May I work with one of my students during the tutorial?

We make an effort to honor mutual requests but we do not guarantee.

10. If I take level 1 in the summer, can I take level 2 in the fall?

You must get permission of the instructor and complete sufficient practice, generally 100 hours.

11. What is the cost for students in the tutorial?

$90. Scholarships are available.

12. Are there scholarships for those taking the training?

Yes, a limited number of partial scholarships are available. The applications are on our website.

13. I am a parent with no background in the field of education. Can I take the class?

We often have parents take this class. A background in education is not required.

14. I would like to retake a level. What are the procedures?

We do not charge for retakes when you have taken the class from one of our instructors, and you will be accommodated in the class if we do not have full enrollment. We will know that after the registration deadline. Please plan on staying for the entire time including the lecture.
