Orton-Gillingham Classes are now offered by the same group of professionals that have been teaching in the Twin Cities area for years. Jackie Dimmen, Kathy Fears, Mary Platt, Karen Sonday, Arlene Sonday, and Hannah Tolles are pleased to have formed a new organization that continues their commitment to quality, research-based teacher training. Additional board members include Rose Schaeppi, Arlene Timm and Shari Hawkinson. The mission of Orton-Gillingham of Minnesota is to provide scientifically based reading research instruction and supervised practicum experience in the Orton-Gillingham Approach to teaching reading, spelling and writing. Each course participant practices for a total of 18 hours with a student while under the supervision of a master teacher. Summer 2012 Classes The Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training classes will be offered twice in Summer 2012. Both classes will be held at Faithful Shepherd Catholic School in Eagan from 9:00am to 2:00pm. In conjunction with the teacher training, tutoring in reading and spelling is available for students with a reading grade level between 1st and 12th grade. Fall 2012 Classes Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training classesLevel 1 Lecture and Practicum When: Saturday, October 6 and Saturday, October 13, 9 AM until 3:30 PM and Tuesdays, October 9 through December 4, 5:30 PM until 9 PM Check back in July for updated information Arlene Sonday received the Margaret Rawson Lifetime Achievement Award at the IDA International Conference in November 2009.
